Rejection Playlist Volume 2, Track 3 “The Fear”

Last weekend I flew to Florida to visit friends and family. Before I popped the new Lemony Snicket audiobook into the CD player of my rental car, I listened to a mix I made in 2009 that I had recently unearthed. Most of the songs I skipped because 4 years later I’m not into them anymore. Imagine my surprise when I heard Lily Allen’s “The Fear.”

We all know what The Fear is. Lately I’ve had my own fights with self-doubt and crazy-talk and this song helps to put it into perspective when all I can think is “I want to be rich and I want lots of money, I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny.”

I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track, yeah I’m on to a winner.

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
And I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
And when do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cause I’m being taking over by The Fear
